Charushila has been consulting with the community in and around Bryant Court regarding their ideas, needs and concerns, and have come up with a design proposal for the green space that considers its usefulness to residents as well as its history.

When designing the seating and allotment areas, research was carried out into the local history of the area. The green space at the back of Bryant Court was constructed on a site that was bombed during the Second World War; it had been a road with a row of terraced houses with a public house at the end.  An old map of the area was overlaid the present green space, and the designs position the garden seating and allotments to line up with the foundations of the former buildings.

After seeking approval from Metropolitan, plans have been drawn up showing the different elevations. These were displayed in the entrance hall of Bryant Court throughout November. Information was provided in English, Turkish and Vietnamese, and a box was left for residents to give feedback. Charushila volunteers spent the day at Bryant Court on Saturday 15 November to chat with residents and answer any questions.

We had positive feedback about the designs, and some residents volunteered to help with the construction, planned for January-March 2015. Stay tuned for the next opportunity to come down and join the work crew!
