LIVING ARCHIVE

Like most housing estates, the history of Canalside is multilayered and shaped by a range of developments. New builds and physical adaptations, new settlements and ideas about how residents make their ‘home’. This is combined with new models of governance and day-to-day operating. Together with different landlords, tenancies and stories of individuals and families who migrated to the estate at different times from a variety of places across London, the UK and beyond.

We’ve chosen to start building this archive with the most recent history of regeneration lasting approximately 10 or so years from 1998 to 2008. In this section, we move back and forth integrating resident recollections and memories of the regeneration period through memorabilia: photos, maps, manifestos and relevant publications.

If you have questions about the Canalside Estate regeneration period, please contact the Canalside Residents’ Association.
